Artist's Statement:

The title, "To Sleep Perchance to Dream," comes from Shakespeare's "Hamlet" and is suited to the reverie that this work evokes. The spiral springs of the mattress are exposed and layered within a collage of holograms that project and recede into numerous layers of multi-hued space. The form of the bed, and all its connotations of sleep and rest, is contrasted to the change of color and the relentless activity of the spatial spiral permutations. The gentle flexibility of the film lends an element of intangibility to the wire spirals, enhancing their function as a symbol of active dream life. The bed, itself, is not an object of sheltered repose; its skeletal interior is sleep that has been opened to a conscious view and contemplation of the complexities in our lives.
